Joe Emling of Ingredion Incorporated

In a special visit to the UNH campus, Joe Emling, Director, Specialty Agriculture & Science, Ingredion Incorporated (Indianapolis, IN), will speak on "Successful Commercialization of Agricultural Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges in the Global Food Economy."

From the first domestication of crops and livestock to today's use of modern biotechnology, agricultural innovation has impacted human health, environmental quality, and economic prosperity.  In our globalized economy, advances are influenced by consumer attitudes, government regulation, investor expectations, sustainability, and other factors.  The successful innovator balances these influences to create lasting value from breakthrough advances in agricultural technologies and processes.

• The challenges of managing long-timeline agricultural science investments in an environment that favors short-payback projects
• Strategic decision making when it comes to integrating technologically while using open innovation and partnerships to leverage others' expertise

About Joe Emling

Joe Emling is Director, Specialty Agriculture & Science at Ingredion Incorporated. In this role, Joe manages portfolio of activities including core Plant Science research, corn hybrid development, seed production, agronomic testing, specialty grains contracting, and agrimaterials supply management. He also leads a global network of the company’s agribusiness managers, and he guides corporate policy on issues involving Genetically Modified Organisms. Joe is a member of Ingredion’s Operational Excellence Leadership Team and its Sustainability Council, where he represents the company’s agricultural interests around the world. Joe is an inventor on several U.S. and international patents and is based in Indianapolis, Indiana 

The seminar will be followed by beer and networking from 5:00-7:00pm in the same room. Attendees must be 21+ to partake.

This year, ORPC seminars will be located in the Elliott Alumni Center on the corner of Edgewood Road (off of Main Street) and Strafford Avenue in Durham.

Campus visitors are encouraged to park in Lot H for $1/hour; parking is free after 6pm. Metered parking is also available along Strafford Avenue.

The Innovation Catalyst Seminar Series, hosted monthly, discusses relevant issues related to commercializing UNH’s innovations, including current and emerging best practices on campus.

The seminars are open to all and designed to be a meeting place for innovators, entrepreneurs, service providers, and anyone else interested in how the university innovations of today represent the information and opportunities of tomorrow.
